Event Coord'
Nova Scotia Ramblers Bicycle Club

Role of the Event Coordinator (EC)

In the Ramblers, we are all equal participants, sharing the roads and trails with like-minded cyclists. We do not have a Ride Leader as such, however we do have someone serve as the event coordinator (EC); recognizing we are all adults and assume all the risks ourselves for all Rambler events. Sometimes two or more members will team up to serve as joint ECs. The EC will assist the group by:

Pre - event

* Receive membership list, walkie talkies, and 1st aid kit, if applicable
* Print off at least 3 membership applications (waivers), for potential guests
* Research the ride / trail route, for potential hazards, regrouping spots, washrooms, lunch    stops and points of interest.
*E-mail a short description of the ride including ride rating, planned route (maps optional)    and highlights, remind participants that they are responsible for the mechanical    condition of their bicyles and should perform an ABC check prior to arrival.

Event day

* Welcome people &circulate ride list (try to start on time)
* Sign in quests, observe bikes for road readiness
* Identify the Sweep; call for introductions
* Describe ride, potential hazards, review safe riding practices
* Indicate the next regroup place (at all stops)

Post Event

* Return equipment; sign in sheet to Tour Planner (Bob)
* Send in new member's applications / money to Registrar (Mary)
Other Considerations

Some EC's like to do research on areas, especially on road or out of area rides and plan stops at interesting points of interest, like a winery, fort, church, café, etc. All this adds to a more enjoyable experience for the participants. It is not necessary to have the walkie talkies on the ride; it just helps communication between the EC and the sweep. People who ride on ahead of the EC are deemed to have left the ride, as they are no longer within the ride (between to EC and sweep). If someone leaves the ride, they should notify the EC or sweep.

The Sweep

Role of the Sweep

In the Ramblers, we are all responsible for maintaining our bicycles, having a tire patch kit, tools for roadside repairs,a small first aid kit with us on each ride. The Sweep will assist the EC during the ride by riding in the rear and communicating to the EC any problems, delays, people departing the ride and assisting riders if required.

Pre - event

* Have a first aid kit.
* Have a tool kit with small cresent wrench.

Ride Committee

Starting in 2011, the Ramblers have created a ride commitee of volunteers chaired by the Vice President responsible for the creation and adminstration of the Ride Schedule which includes obtaining Event Coordinators, Sweeps for each ride. The current year rides will be based upon suggestions from the club membership. The Ride Committee will be looking at a balance of trail, road and multiday trips that is the core of the club. The Ride Committe can be reached at the following email address ridecom@nsramblers.ca Remember this is your club, all feedback and suggestions are welcome.
